The UK government is considering paring back the powers of its planned football regulator as part of a wider clamp-down on bureaucracy.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office is reviewing the proposals to ensure they don’t stifle the growth of the Premier League and disincentivize overseas investment in Britain’s biggest football clubs, according to people familiar with the matter. The regulator is unlikely to be scrapped but could be watered down through further amendments to legislation that is currently being finalized, they said.
