Slovak authorities charged a 72-year-old retiree who is accused of shooting Prime Minister Robert Fico at close range last year with carrying out a terrorist attack.

The Slovak General Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Juraj Cintula on Monday, it said in a statement. The attacker, who has told authorities that he acted alone out of frustration with government policies and had no intention of killing the premier, would face a life sentence if convicted.
