Dutch Government Bets on €1 Billion Cuts, AI to Boost Efficiency

The Netherlands is set to implement sweeping budget cuts across central government while exploring the use of artificial intelligence in an attempt to boost government efficiency.

The measures target structural savings of €1 billion ($1.1 billion) — or 22% of the government’s operating budget — by 2029, Interior Minister Judith Uitermark said in a letter to parliament on Friday, and should result in “less bureaucracy, fewer rules, less administration and accountability burdens.”
