Democratic Representative Raul Grijalva, a leading progressive voice in Congress since 2003, has died at 77.

The former House Natural Resources Committee chair, whose southern Arizona district is anchored in parts of his native Tucson and stretches to the US-Mexico border, revealed early last year he’d been diagnosed with cancer. He later specified it to be lung cancer.
