Shaheen’s Retirement Opens Competitive Senate Seat in 2026

New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen will not run for reelection in 2026, opening up a competitive seat and complicating Democrats’ efforts to reclaim the Senate majority.

“After careful consideration, I am announcing I have made the difficult decision not to seek reelection to the Senate in 2026,” Shaheen, 78, said in a video statement. “It’s just time.”
