Romania’s constitutional court upheld a decision banning presidential front-runner Calin Georgescu from May’s election, ending a bid that plunged the country into the biggest political crisis since the fall of communism.

The decision leaves Romania’s resurgent far-right with just days to come up with a new candidate who can tap into the anti-establishment sentiment that Georgescu’s candidacy brought into the open. In a speech posted on social media after the court’s decision, Georgescu refused to endorse another candidate, urging his supporters to vote with their conscience.
