German Greens See Chance for Defense Spending Deal This Week

Germany’s Greens are prepared to reach an agreement as soon as this week that would pave the way for hundreds of billions of euros in defense and infrastructure spending with the country’s prospective next chancellor, Friedrich Merz.
“Of course we are ready to negotiate,” the Green party’s co-leader Franziska Brantner said Tuesday in a Bloomberg TV interview. “The situation is dire in Ukraine and we really need Europe to speed up its own defense spending.”
