Buffalo’s Billion-Dollar Freeway Fix Is on Ice, But Not Because of Trump

The court ruling that paused the $1.5 billion Kensington Expressway project because of environmental concerns is a win for activists who want the freeway’s full removal.

Across the US, state departments of transportation are scrambling to determine whether they can proceed with projects funded by the Biden administration’s signature infrastructure bills. Shortly after taking office, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders attempting to claw back funds for projects connected to “climate change,” “equity,” and other progressive priorities.

But one prominent New York State transportation project championed by the Biden administration is now on hold for a different reason.
