French billionaire Vincent Bolloré organized an elaborate Catholic mass in his native Brittany to mark the bicentenary of his family’s eponymous conglomerate — and signal his retirement to the world.
The 2022 ceremony took place inside a Gothic chapel, not far from the Odet River that had powered the family’s paper mill from the early 19th century. Dressed in traditional costume, Bolloré and three of his four children walked solemnly into the church in remote northwestern France, with youngest son Cyrille bearing a guilded cross.
