US benchmark oil extended losses in post-settlement trading after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick signaled that the US may offer relief for tariffs on Mexico and Canada on Wednesday.
West Texas Intermediate slipped below $68 a barrel, down about 0.5% from its settlement price, as of 4:31 p.m. in New York. WTI had posted only a marginal decline during the regular session as the potential loss of Canadian or Mexican supplies threatened to tighten the US crude market.
