A flu-like illness that’s afflicted almost a thousand people in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as a new strain of mpox are circulating in the central African country, according to health authorities.
Identifying the cause of the mystery illness and reining in rising mpox cases are being complicated by war and US funding freezes, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and Congo’s health minister.
