Texas Child’s Death From Measles Is First in US in a Decade

A Texas child died of measles amid a growing outbreak of the infectious virus, the first reported US death from the disease in a decade.

The death occurred Wednesday morning at Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, according to Katherine Wells, the city’s director of public health. The child was “school-aged” and unvaccinated against measles, according to Lauren Adams, a spokesperson for the city.
