Egypt’s Billion-Dollar Grand Museum Finally Gets an Opening Date
Egypt’s $1 billion flagship antiquities museum was given an opening date after almost two decades of work, in what’s set to be a significant boost for the North African nation’s crucial tourism industry.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, located about a mile from the Giza pyramids, will be inaugurated on July 3, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced Tuesday. Authorities envisage the attraction, where construction began in 2005 and some exhibitions halls have already opened, will bring in 5 million annual visitors.
