ECB’s Stournaras Says Too Soon to Discuss Pausing Cuts: Politico

It’s too early for the European Central Bank to debate pausing its cycle of interest-rate reductions, Governing Council member Yannis Stournaras told Politico.

In an apparent response to Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel suggesting that officials should do just that, the dovish Greek central-bank chief said the ECB’s monetary policy continues to restrain economic activity, meaning further easing is needed. He reiterated a call to cut the deposit rate, currently at 2.75%, to 2%.
