Conservative frontrunner Friedrich Merz suggested he’s a shoo-in to win Germany’s election on Sunday, telling Social Democrat Chancellor Olaf Scholz to his face that he’ll need a miracle to pull off a comeback victory.
Merz, who heads the center-right CDU/CSU alliance, used Wednesday’s second and final head-to-head TV debate with Scholz to appeal to voters to grant him a strong mandate that can pave the way for a genuine policy shift in Europe’s biggest economy.
