US, Russia Signal Sanctions Are Up for Debate in Ukraine Talks

The US and Russia signaled a determination to remove sanctions imposed over President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as part of talks to end the conflict, opening up another point of tension with European allies that want the restrictions to remain in place.
Russia and the US expressed “great interest in removing artificial barriers to the development of mutually beneficial economic cooperation,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters after senior officials from the two countries met Tuesday in Saudi Arabia. There was “a mutual desire to find concrete solutions” to economic issues, he said.
