German Chancellor Olaf Scholz slammed US Vice President JD Vance’s combative comments on European policy, adding to escalating friction between Europe’s largest economy and one of its most important allies.

Scholz evoked the Nazi era in rebuffing Vance’s speech at a Munich conference of defense and foreign-policy officials on Friday, in which he accused European leaders of ignoring voters worried about the impact of migration.
