Meta Platforms Inc. is prying open its previously guarded Facebook Marketplace platform to a swathe of classified ads rivals, in a renewed attempt to comply with a landmark European Union antitrust order that was accompanied by a €798 million ($829 million) fine.

The company said Thursday that it will allow classified ad firms in Europe to pay to place their listings on Facebook Marketplace. The cost will be based on the number of times a user clicks on a button within the listing. The new program follows a pilot program with eBay.
