Ukrainian officials asked US President Donald Trump’s administration to let them use frozen Russian assets worth $300 billion to buy US-made weapons, according to European officials familiar with the matter.

The idea of seizing the assets and using them to purchase American arms has been raised in multiple meetings between Ukraine, some of its allies and Trump’s team in recent weeks, the people said. It has also been suggested directly to Trump, one of the people said, stressing there is no indication the president supports the idea.
