Russia’s state expenditures surged in January, pushing the month’s budget deficit to exceed the government’s target for the full year.

Monthly budget expenses increased by 74% compared to the previous year to reach 4.4 trillion rubles ($45.8 billion), according to Finance Ministry data published on Tuesday. That’s more than 10% of the total spending planned for the full year.
