Thailand expects to appoint a panel next month to pick a successor to central bank governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, who has sparred with the government on how best to manage Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.

Sethaput is due to complete his five-year term in September and is ineligible for reappointment under central bank rules as he turned 60 earlier this month. Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira has said the next governor should be “forward-looking with modern ideas” and who can “work closely together” with the finance ministry and the government.
