Eight African leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where recent conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands of people and threatened to ignite a regional war.
The heads of state from the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community issued a communique on Saturday following a summit in Tanzania in which they “emphasized that a political and diplomatic engagement is the most sustainable solution to the conflict.”
