Russian missile attacks on state-owned natural gas assets in Ukraine have forced the country to buy expensive replacement fuel from the European Union, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
Airstrikes have curbed output from key producer Naftogaz Group by as much as a third, and the nation will need to import about 1 billion cubic meters of gas, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.
