German industrial production fell the most in five months at the end of 2024, extending the manufacturing sector’s malaise even as other data offer hope of a stabilization.
Output decreased 2.4% in December from the previous month, worse than almost any economist predicted in a Bloomberg poll. The decline was mainly down to cars and machinery, the statistics office said Friday. The drop pushes the index of production to the lowest level since mid-2020 at the height of the pandemic.
