Senator Ron Wyden on Friday accused the Treasury Department of misleading Congress about the level of access into sensitive payment systems the administration has granted to allies of billionaire Elon Musk.

In a letter Friday to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Wyden said the department had been “misleading and evasive” in a statement that said representatives of Musk’s Department of Governmental Efficiency only had “read-only” access to Treasury’s most sensitive internal systems. Wyden is the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees Treasury.
