TotalEnergies SE Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanne said he expects the US Export-Import bank to finish approval of $4.7 billion in financing for its Mozambique liquefied natural gas project in a matter of weeks under President Donald Trump.
The biggest piece of financing for the $20 billion project to export the southern African nation’s gas discoveries was pledged by Exim in 2020, before construction was suspended the following year due to Islamic State-linked militant attacks nearby. Getting the approvals to activate that financing and other funding from export credit agencies is necessary to restart the project.
