A key site that monitors global carbon-dioxide emissions went offline for maintenance and will return later Wednesday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Power to NOAA’s David Skaggs Research Center in Boulder, Colorado, was turned off for scheduled, five-year maintenance of electrical switch gear, Theo Stein, an agency spokesman, wrote in an email. All internet in the building that hosts the Mauna Loa, Hawaii, observatory’s data as well as several other sites was shut off. Anyone trying to reach the site online found their request denied.
