Britain’s discount grocers gained market share as shoppers looked for value and promotions in the run up to the holiday season and at the start of the year.

Sales rose 7.4% at Lidl and 4.2% at Aldi over the 12 weeks to Jan. 26, research firm Kantar said in a statement Tuesday. Much of that growth likely came at the expense of privately owned Asda, where sales fell 5.2%. It was the only supermarket to record a drop in the period.
