President Donald Trump signed into law the Laken Riley Act on Wednesday, a measure aimed at cracking down on migrants charged with crimes, touting it as a centerpiece of his administration’s pledge to take a tougher approach toward undocumented migration and border security.
“It’s a landmark law that we’re doing today. It’s going to save countless innocent American lives,” Trump said as he signed the bill at the White House, hailing an early bipartisan legislative victory. “This is something that has brought Democrats and Republicans together, that’s not easy to do.”
