President Donald Trump formally appealed his guilty verdict in his New York hush-money case, setting up a new legal battle that became inevitable after the US Supreme Court declined to wipe out his conviction in the days before he took office.
Trump, the first former US president convicted of a crime, on Tuesday filed a one-page notice of appeal with the judge who oversaw his trial. The case will now work its way through New York’s appellate system, and may ultimately return to the Supreme Court for a final resolution.
