Trump Orders Halt to Funds for Trans Kids’ Health Care

  • HHS required to produce report on such care within 90 days
  • About half of US states already restrict such care for kids

The broad move follows a campaign pledge from Trump to shut off government funds for gender transition procedures.

President Donald Trump ordered US agencies to halt funds for gender-affirming care in children younger than 19, threatening research and clinical support for institutions that provide the services.

The executive order directs the Health and Human Services Department to release a report on gender dysphoria and gender-affirming care for children within 90 days. US agency and department heads should immediately stop funding hospitals or medical schools that provide such services in order to “end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children,” the order said.
