The 2024-25 winter ski season is proving to be a hot one—figuratively, of course—with bumper snowfall in nearly every alpine region. Niseko, Japan, has received a record 191 inches so far, making it the best start to the season in nearly 70 years. Deep powder has also blanketed the Alps, a relief for local businesses after several warm winters; that’s similarly welcome news to Americans headed abroad to ski now that the exchange rate has made Europe’s resorts a value proposition. Even in the US, mountains have benefited from early snowfall and improved snowmaking infrastructure, which promises better conditions than in years past.
If all that has you jonesing for more ski days than you’ve currently got planned, there’s more good news: All of these regions have seen buzzy midseason hotel openings that may pave the way for fabulous last-minute trips. Here are five to prioritize, with rates that start at just $100 per night.
