Wind generation in the UK was all but wiped out on Wednesday morning, forcing a switch to costlier gas-fired power.
On an average day, wind turbines across the country are producing about 10 gigawatts of electricity. That dropped to 0.22 gigawatts during the calmest period on Wednesday morning, according to the National Energy System Operator. Intraday electricity prices exceeded £340 per megawatt-hour at 5:30 p.m., data from Epex Spot SE showed.
