Tanzania’s main opposition party elected Tundu Lissu as its chairman Wednesday, a victory that positions him to contest the presidential election later this year.

The outspoken rights lawyer and former member of parliament has already declared his intention to vie against President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is running as the ruling party’s candidate.
