Portugal’s government won’t name Mario Centeno for a second term as governor of the country’s central bank, television channel SIC reported on its website, without saying how it obtained the information.
The government hasn’t taken a decision on Centeno’s reappointment and there are still six months left for his first term to end, Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento said at a press conference in Lisbon on Thursday. “The topic was never discussed between the prime minister and myself, and when the end of the term approaches we will have this discussion, we will take a decision.”
