The new French government plans to limit temporary levies on companies to one year and will instead focus on taxing the rich as it seeks ways to narrow the deficit, according to Budget Minister Amelie de Montchalin.

The previous short-lived administration under premier Michel Barnier had proposed an exceptional measure on some 440 profitable companies with annual revenue of more than €1 billion ($1 billion) that would generate €8 billion this year and €4 billion in 2026.
