Counterfeit Liquor Kills 30 People in Istanbul in Three Days

Thirty people died in Turkey’s biggest city this week from consumption of counterfeit alcohol, with dozens more still in critical condition.
Cases of methanol poisoning in Istanbul “increased significantly” since Monday, the city governor’s office said in a statement. A further 49 people are being treated at hospitals. The death count is already more than half the 48 who died in the whole of 2024.
