Riyadh Air, the Saudi Arabian carrier seeking to compete with Emirates and Qatar Airways, will receive far fewer aircraft from Boeing Co. this year than originally planned, in a setback to the startup airline’s ambitious launch preparations.

The carrier now expects to get as many as four 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft at best from the manufacturer, according to people familiar with the matter. The airline was previously due to receive about eight of the widebodies in 2025, with deliveries commencing early in the year, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the discussions are confidential.
