A US government program that awards billions of dollars in federal contracts to minority-owned businesses is set to face increasing legal attacks, the head of the initiative warns, as the backlash against diversity policies gains steam with an incoming Trump administration.
The US Small Business Administration allocated a record $78 billion last year to what it dubs ‘Small Disadvantaged Businesses’ — companies owned by people from historically marginalized groups including Black and Latino people and women. The Biden administration had set a 15% target for the share of federal contracting dollars that go to such firms.
