Gambia’s Remittances Rival Tourism as Source of Foreign Exchange

Gambia received a significant increase in remittances from overseas workers last year, rivalling tourism as a source of foreign exchange for the economy, according to the country’s central bank governor.
Transfers rose 4% to $776 million in 2024, equivalent to 31.5% of the nation’s gross domestic product, Central Bank of The Gambia Governor Buah Saidy told a national forum on diaspora financing on Saturday.
