The UK government said compensating victims of child grooming gangs in a decades-old scandal is a “complex” issue that needs to be examined closely before further action is taken.

The government so far has rejected calls from US billionaire Elon Musk and the main opposition Conservative Party to hold a fresh inquiry into child sexual exploitation in British towns by gangs of abusers of predominantly Pakistani heritage, saying its priority is to act on the recommendations of a previous probe.
