Elvie, a startup best known for making high-tech breast pumps, is expanding into a new category: a smart bassinet designed to compete with the popular Snoo.
The new device, called the Elvie Rise, converts from an infant bouncer to an automated bassinet for sleeping. The American Academy of Pediatrics, among other bodies, advises against letting babies sleep in seated devices like bouncers, but bassinets with firm, flat mattresses are considered safe for newborn sleep. The Rise can also be controlled through a smartphone app, and claims to record and repeat the caregiver’s bouncing rhythm, allowing the machine to mimic the rocking a baby is used to.
