Germany wants to mandate that all new solar power systems include an off switch allowing grid operators to turn them off remotely in case of bottlenecks, a sign that the country’s transmission network hasn’t kept track with renewable expansion.

Units of 7 kilowatts or more will have to be equipped so that their output can be reduced or cut off to prevent overloading the network, according to a revised draft law presented to parliament on Wednesday.
