The European Commission has started an investigation into Poland’s plan to use state aid for its first nuclear power plant.

The probe may complicate the €45 billion euro ($47.2 billion) investment, which is key to ensuring a stable energy supply after the country phases out its coal plants. The nuclear project is already delayed, with Warsaw estimatingBloomberg Terminal that the first nuclear unit will be completed by US Westinghouse Electric Co. and Bechtel Group Inc. in 2036.
