Corruption Probes Could Impair Xi’s Military Vision, US Says

Corruption investigations that ensnared some of China’s top military leaders could hinder modernization goals for the country’s armed forces, delaying efforts to reach key milestones by 2027, according to the US Defense Department.

The new wave of corruption allegations that began to unfold last year has touched every service in the People’s Liberation Army and “may have shaken Beijing’s confidence in high-ranking PLA officials,” the Pentagon said in an annual report to Congress published Wednesday on military and security developments in China.
