Poland’s second-biggest power utility Tauron Polska Energia SA seeks to shun its coal-fired units by the end of this decade as the European Union’s most coal-reliant country speeds up energy transition.

The state-controlled company plans to spend 100 billion zloty ($25 billion), mostly on distribution network and renewables, by 2035 and reach climate neutrality five years later. Coal power plants currently account for 86% of its 5.1 gigawatts generation fleet.
