A measure of New York state factory activity retreated by the most since May 2023 after surging last month to an almost three-year high following the election of Donald Trump.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s December manufacturing index slid 31 points to 0.2, figures issued Monday showed. Readings above zero indicate expansion, and the median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for a reading of 10.
