Turkish transformer maker Astor Transformator Enerji plans to open its first factories abroad, in Spain and the US, to help address a global shortage of the devices that are key to the energy transition.
The $40 billion transformer market is a critical bottleneck in the push to modernize electricity grids and meet surging demand from electric vehicles and data centers. Waiting times have ballooned to four years in some cases, up from less than one just a few years ago.
