Northern Ireland lawmakers voted to continue applying post-Brexit rules, but opposition from unionist parties underscored the challenge facing the UK government as it tries to maintain political stability in the region.

Majority support in the Northern Ireland Assembly means the Windsor Framework — the part of the UK-European Union Brexit deal that applies to trade of goods in Northern Ireland — will continue. But the stance taken by the Democratic Unionist Party and others means the UK must now commission an independent report looking at the impact of the deal on the region.
