Italy is in talks with carmaker Stellantis NV on commitments to protect jobs and support suppliers as Chairman John Elkann seeks a new course for the Fiat and Alfa Romeo maker that recently ousted its boss.

Elkann and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are patching up relations following months of clashes between Rome and former Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares, according to people familiar with the matter.
